Five Little Weeks To Sanity: Do You Need A Fresh Infusion of Grace?
Just spent the weekend in San Diego with a gaggle of girls and guys who want to live pure lives. One didn't. It was pretty obvious that she was furious about being there. She crossed her arms, glared and fumed at me when I spoke. Her mom had brought her and she was visibly cruel to the woman. This thirteen year old seemed to be a tough nut to crack. She was in turmoil. No peace.
I kept praying a verse from the Psalms over her "You (LORD) touch the rock and it flows like a stream; the hard rock and it gushes like a fountain." Oh, how this one needed touched!
As the day came to an end, I shared a message on healing and confession and invited the teens to come forward knowing that an adult would approach them for some confession and prayer. She popped right up. I was stunned. I went right to her. Her heart had been broken by her father's abandonment through divorce. As a result, she was allowing guys to do all kinds of crazy things with her. She confessed boldly to me and as she did tears welled up in her once hardened eyes. As I prayed for God to release her from her dad's sin and her own, she cried even harder. Grace began to flood her soul. I've seen it before. There's no mistaking it. God's grace does certainly make the hardness in us flow! She made her way back to her mother and collapsed into her arms, resting there for the rest of the worship time. When she left, she was a new girl. Fresh. Happy. At peace. She just needed to come back to get more of that grace God so freely extends to us. Her mother approached me, knowing I was missing my own daughter's performance in a musical to be there.
"I think God used you to save my daughter's life today!" she said. "I know you are missing your daughter's performance. I'm going to pray he gives it back to you somehow."
I thought nothing of her passing words, but oh how I wish I had her name. I am certain she prayed.
The next morning I learned that Lexi's performance was sold out and dozens were turned away...so they're having an encore performance next weekend! Our God is sooooo big!
Do you need a fresh infusion of Grace? Come to Him. Ask for it. He's waiting for you.
