Mother & Daughter Defy Death By Shopping Together!

I feel for every mother and teenage daugther that hit the stores for spring fashion. Lexi and I went last week. She won't mind me telling you that we cried! I'm talking a fresh downpour of frustration and exhaustion. The shorts we saw ranged from walking-shorts-which-Lexi-deemed-too-long to shorts-with-absolutely-no-inseam-which-I-vetoed. The skirts ranged from bulky-bohemian to barely-there. AND WE HAVEN'T EVEN TRIED TO FIND A SWIMMING SUIT YET!
All I can say is that protecting my daughter's tender innocence is worth every tear. I wouldn't have the guts to fight this battle if I didn't realize that the Medical Institute For Sexual Health lists "appearing older than her age" as a top risk factor. I'm going to protect Lexi's heart in every way I can and that includes saying "no" to the clothes that don't pass my standards. (And saying "Yes! Yes! Yes!" to everything adorable, cute and fashionable that does!)
Why am I writing this?
So you know that you're not alone if you have a little fashionista to chaperone to the mall this spring! Stick to your standards...or send your husband to the mall with her. (He'll never take you for granted again!)
As you fight the battle, keep in mind that we have a lot of creative resources at purefreedom.org to help you. I believe that having a plan and being creative is critical. In fact, I'd like to invite you to be a host of one of this summer's Secret Keeper Girl Bod Squad stops. If you've never been to one and you have an 8-12 year old girl, you need to see it to believe it! Fashion shows, confetti cannons, balloon sculptures, great Bible teaching...and this summer we got Stephanie Smith, the best up-and-coming Christian music artist! If you're interested...or just tired of crying at the mall...connect with my booking coordinator at eileen@purefreedom.org. Or visit purefreedom.org to learn more.
You'll be glad you did!
Oh...and about the mall... be careful out there.
